More from middle Michigan

Jul 22 Sun … Attended a nice church service at the park. Dixie did another haircut and then we took a short drive to Hardy Dam and went on a 3 mile hike…very wooded with views of the Muskegon River. Tomorrow we move up the road about 150 miles to Gaylord (central part of northern Michigan).
Jul 21 Sat … One more trip to Grand Rapids to see the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. We are glad that we tried a second time as we really enjoyed it -the museum was very well done. President Ford is buried on the grounds overlooking the Grand River. That makes 8 presidential museum/libraries that we have seen! We had a good dinner out tonight at a small café near the rv park.
Jul 20 Fri … Today we packed a lunch and took another drive. This time we went to the Silver Lake State Park on the banks of Lake Michigan. Located at this park are the Silver Lake Sand Dunes where you can rent or drive your own vehicle over the several miles of beautiful natural sand dunes. This must be the place where the “dune buggy” was born because there were all shapes and sizes of them riding the dunes. There was just as many “quads” or what we call “4 wheelers” out and about on the dunes as well. We climbed to a peak where we watched the cars climb and then hope they wouldn’t “high center” before descending down the other side. We watched a couple of them not make it and have to dig their way out in order to continue down the other side. It was quite entertaining, and tiring, because climbing the steep dunes in ankle deep sand was tough. We then drove a short distance to the Sable Lighthouse on Lake Michigan. Although the weather wasn’t the greatest, the view was magnificent!
Jul 19 Thurs … Dixie is doing hair today and Mike is looking for things to do.
Jul 18 Wed … Today, we drove about 45 miles into Grand Rapids to visit the Gerald R. Ford Museum. However, when we got there, a sign on the door stated that it was closed due to a power outage in the area. The security guard said that they hoped to get it back by the afternoon. We decided to walk into downtown and look around since it was a rather short walk. We ended up at the downtown library where we used their computers. We had lunch at a local deli. After arriving home, Mike went to the indoor pool and took a swim while Dixie did more campground research on the computer.

Jul 17 Tue … With a threat of rain we stayed around the motorhome most of the day. Wouldn’t you know … it was dry all day. Dixie worked on ‘trip planning’ for the end of the year and part of next year.
