The weather needs to improve in southern California!

Feb 19 – 24, Tue-Sun ...The weather hasn’t cooperated since we’ve been here in Menifee (cool and rainy) but on Wednesday, we drove the short distance to Temecula, CA and visited their “old town” shopping district. While there, we enjoyed a warm Latte coffee at a Starbucks coffee house. Friday, we drove into Riverside and had lunch with Mike’s sister Sandy and her husband Buster and a friend. We had a very good lunch at a restaurant called Claim Jumper. Dinner was at Dixie’s Aunt Marge’s in Riverside. Rather than driving back to Menifee after dark, we stayed over night with her. On Saturday, we met Buster and Sandy and their three grandkids, at a Chuck E Cheese restaurant for a lunch of pizza and salad. Later, we went over to their house in Mission Viejo for a visit. The drive home was via the Ortega highway which winds 26 miles through the Santa Ana Mountains. Sunday, we moved, in the rain, 55 miles to Pomona. We are parked at the Los Angles County fair grounds to attend the RV rally sponsored by the Family Motor Coach Association that we belong to. This is five days of dry camping (no hook-ups), education seminars, accessory shopping and entertainment, including the Belamy Brothers on Thursday night. There will be more than 5,000 motorhomes here; it should be a fun time, if the weather will cooperate.

A hole of The Quarry golf course....this view was from a mountain side on our hike! You don't really get the full dimension of it from this photo. We were much higher up than it looks!

On the Move!

Feb 11 – 18, Mon-Mon ...Tue. we went to dinner with Ross & Janice (high school buddy) and another couple. From there we went to Lexi’s Gym class. On Wed. we planned to golf in the afternoon. We hit some balls & then found out the tee times were backed up a lot so we decided to skip the golf. Instead we drove to Sun City Shadow Hills and looked at model homes! What a beautiful community...it would be a great place to live, at least part of the year. On Fri. we moved to Cahuilla County park south of LaQuinta. We ‘dry’ camped on the beach of the lake as there we no hook up sites available. Danny & Lexi came for a visit & dinner. Sat. we hiked the area where we found a breathtaking view of “The Quarry” golf course. We sat on the mountain side and watched a few golfers go by. Later we attempted to go to a classic car show but the traffic entering was quite backed up so went to lunch instead. Later we visited with Ross & Janice at their motel and then went to Jim & Diane Jenk’s winter condo to visit & have dinner. On Sun. it was time for another move...this time we went about 50 miles to the Morongo Casino for a quick overnight stop. Danny & Lexi came and we all went bowling & then had dinner at the motorhome! We used some muscles that haven’t been used for awhile there! On Mon. we went to the outlet malls near the casino and then moved on to our next stop – Wilderness Lakes, which is located in Menifee, CA (south of Riverside). This is our second time to this park...we know we’ve been on the road awhile as we are visiting the same parks.

Sunny California...the weather is now living up to it's name!

Feb 4 – 10, Mon-Sun... More haircutting, walking and bike riding! Nothing real exciting early in the week. Friday afternoon Danny came over for dinner and a video. On Sat. the weather finally warmed up enough for shorts. We even went to the pool however the heater broke so the water temp was 72 degrees which was too cold for much swimming. Late Sat. afternoon we picked up Danny and went to the Palm Springs “Chill” minor league baseball game and out for a burger afterwords. Sunday was our big day as we went to Disneyland with Danny and Lexi. Lexi is 7 so we went on a lot of kiddy rides as well as a few 'big kid' rides. We had a very good time & Lexi did great, having no fear of any ride! The park was very busy and crowded but we managed to stay for 7 hours. We stopped for dinner and finally made it home around 10pm.

Marge & Tyler toasting their marshmellows for our S'Mores dessert. We forgot our camera so this is one taken with the phone so it's not very good. You can't see the fire. We actually toasted them right at the table! It was pretty cool!

A busy week in southern CA

Jan 28 – Feb 3, Mon-Sun...Dixie kept busy this week doing haircuts (18) . On Monday we took in a movie (American Gangster) with our friends from Chicago. It was good, although violent!
On Tuesday Dixie met Danny & Lexi at her gym class & then to Chuckie Cheese for pizza & games.
Wednesday afternoon we drove to Riverside and picked up Marge & Don (aunt & uncle) and then drove to Anaheim to meet Doug, Fran, Levi & Tyler for dinner at their hotel. We had a great time visiting and catching up on their vacation week. We stayed overnight at Marge’s & visited in the morning. Dixie caught the stomach virus that Mike had & is still not feeling well. Mike’s lasted for a full week & it looks like Dixie’s will as well.
On Thursday we drove back to Desert Hot Springs with a side trip to Hemet to check out an RV park there. It wasn’t great so we will be cancelling that reservation!
On Friday, we moved approximately 25 miles to another of our membership parks in the area, Indian Waters RV park in Indio, Ca. This park is in a better location to access all of the cities in and around the Palm Springs area. It’s also a few degrees warmer and the wind doesn’t blow quite as much. Later, we met with our friend Ross for dinner at Murph’s Gaslight restaurant for pan fried chicken.
On Saturday, we went to the “street fair” at the College of the Desert campus in Palm Desert. This excellent market is attended by thousands of people every weekend. Later, Dixie’s brother Danny and daughter Lexi came over for a visit and dinner.
On Sunday morning, (Super Bowl Day) we met Dixie’s brother Danny along with Montana relatives Bill and Gloria Brinkman at the Agua Caliente casino for brunch. It was excellent food and we had a good visit with them. Later, we visited more Montana friends, Jim and Diane Jenks at their Palm Springs apartment for a Super Bowl get together. Unfortunately, after the first quarter of play, their cable television went out due to high winds in the area. We contemplated going to a casino or bar to watch the game but decided to just stay home and listen to the game on the radio. It was definitely a first for most of us. Super Bowl XLII will not be soon forgotten.
