Glarcier National Park & Surrounding Area
Jun 19-28...We have been keeping quite busy. While in Seeley Lake we went on the boat again, this time to Lake Placid. Still no luck on the fishing but my cousin Jay water skied - too cold for us! After Seeley we moved on to Bigfork for 2 nights, parking at Dixie's second cousins and enjoying the hospitality of Bill & Gloria. They have a home on Flathead Lake and they took us out for a boat ride where we viewed some of the "high $$" homes. Next stop was Kalispell, which was a big stop for us as we traded vehicles. We now tow a Silver 2004 Tracker. We went to a 4 door hardtop. Since we carry so much "stuff" in our car we felt we needed a little more space and security. While in Havasu, we found out just how easy the softtop was to break into when we locked the keys in the car and we were able to get in the car in a matter of minutes! We have been in Glacier National Park since Sunday. Today we drove the "Going to the Sun" road seeing lots of snow and clouds - the weather wasn't great but we enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Along the way traffic was stopped for "blasting" - no, not a mountain but for "snow"!!!! On our return trip we hiked 4 miles round trip to Avalanche Lake. Little did we know that the hike was uphill most of the way. It started raining 3/4 of the way up and all the way back. Needless to say we were soaked. However, the Avalanche Creek, Gorge and Lake was worth the effort and sore muscles we have. In this area there are rivers, creeks, lakes, waterfalls and mountains wherever you look - it is truly a gorgeous site. I came to Glacier Park many times as a child but forgot just how phenomenal it is. Tomorrow we are going Whitewater Rafting on the middle fork of the Flathead River. They tell us the water is 42 degrees - and we thought we were cold today after our rain soaked hike!
