May 8-12.....We are ending our stay at our last stop in Oregon. We are at a town called Seaside, which is where the Lewis and Clark Expedition set up & boiled sea water to obtained salt to dry their meats for the winter at Fort Clatsop & their return trip. This year marks the bi-centennial of their arrival at the coast. Yesterday we toured Fort Clatsop and saw many artifacts & a movie about their complete expedition. We then crossed the 4 mile bridge from Astoria, Or. to Washington. From there we went a little further and stopped at Cape Dissapointment Sate Park where we hiked 1.5 miles roundtrip (uphill) to Cape Dissapointment (yes, you guessed it, another) Lighthouse. It was a beautiful view of the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean! A couple miles from there we stopped at Cape Head Lighthouse! While looking at these lighthouse we saw 2 "tall ships" coming into the area. We stopped at the small town where there were docking and got a closer look. The one ship, the "Lady Washington" was used in the movie, "Pirates of the Carribean". The crew was dressed in period costumes and flew an America flag representing the 13 colonies. Today we are going to see "Tillomock Lighthouse" which is on an island. This is one lighthouse we will not be going in, at least not yet (it's used to house "remains"). Even though it has rained for 2 of the days we have been here, we have managed to see alot. Tomorrow we are off to Washington to meet Tim, Micheala and grandkids for a long weekend on the coast! Unfortunately rain is in the forcast -- we are in the Pacific Northwest in May, what should we expect?
