Leaving the "Hills"
Sept 18-23....We continued our visit in the Black Hills by driving around and seeing the sites. The weather has been great. We spent a day in the Deadwood/Lead area. We went on a great tour that took us through the town and to "Boothill" where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are buried. The town is full of casinos which supports the restorations of their history. Did you know that Wild Bill was only in Deadwood for 62 days before he was murdered? Kevin Costner owns one of the casinos and has all his costumes from his movies displayed there. They also have a great museum that shows the towns colorful history. We also went back to Mount Rushmore again for the evening lighting ceremony. It was spectacular and very patriotic - the park ranger gave a talk, showed a movie on a huge screen and then the lights were turned on the monument while the audience sang the Stars Spangled Banner. Today we left the Black Hills and are now in Denver until Monday.
