The Last Leg of our Trip
Jul 16 Mon … This morning we moved to a site where we could receive the satellite feed and was much more level. And after “sleeping in” we drove into Freemont (home of the Gerber Baby Food Plant) where we visited the rv’ers supply store, aka Walmart.
Jul 15 Sun … We arrived in CLE at 6am and waited in the Presidents Club until our 1220p flight to Grand Rapids, MI. It was a short night and a long day. We drove back to the motorhome & got it out of storage, then drove the 100 miles to the Woodlands on the Lake RV resort near White Cloud, MI. We arrived there at 530p. The site we chose was not level and very wooded.
Jul 14 Sat … Went to the local swimming pool and watched the kids swim. We checked flights back to Michigan and decided we needed to leave this evening instead of tomorrow. As usual, the flights are all full. We left the house about 6p to drive to the Tacoma Dome to see the “Walking with the Dinosaurs” show. This was the first city it has been in on it’s 2 year tour of North America. It was a great show with life size dinosaurs, a pretty amazing site! After the show Micheala and the kids dropped us off at the airport just in time to catch our 11pm flight to Cleveland. Once in Cleveland, we had a 6 hour layover but we had the Presidents club facility to make it better. We boarded the flight to Grand Rapids as scheduled at 12:20p.m.
Jul 13 Fri … We drove to Seattle and went to the Zoo. Tim stayed home since he has a cast on his broken foot. Had a great time at the Zoo.
Jul 12 Thu … Got on the 7am flight from Great Falls to Seattle. Micheala, Adriana, and Dillon picked us up at the airport about 1045a. We dropped Micheala off at Costco to work her shift and we took the kids home. Later in the afternoon we took the kids on a hike in the Twin Falls state park near their home in North Bend. Had a great time hiking and playing in the river. We picked up Micheala from work and we all had dinner at Chilis.
Jul 11 Wed …Dixie’s Aunt Eleanor visited in the afternoon. Danny & Lexi flew back to California – after we took them to the airport we went to out to dinner with Mom, Dad and Fran.

More from Montana
Jul 10 Tue … We went to the Verizon store in Great Falls and got a new cell phone. It was time for our ‘new every two’! Spent the rest of the day around the house visiting with Danny and Lexi & Mom & Dad.
Jul 9 Mon … Said our goodbyes to Steve and Denita and the kids and headed to Havre, a drive of about 72 miles. Dixie had two yearly Dr. appointments and we both had dental appointments that afternoon. After stopping at the “Lunch Box” we continued our trip to Great Falls where Dixie’s parents live. We plan to be here until Thursday when we take a flight to Seattle to visit Micheala and family.
Jul 8 Sun … Back to Turner for an outdoor church service. After that was a parade again in “downtown”. It featured floats, classic cars and restored farm and ranch equipment. Dixie wore a Hogeland Hawk cheerleader uniform from the 60’s while ridding a float. Our nephew, Levi had an accident while riding on a four wheeler and had to go to the emergency room in Havre to have a stitch in his head and several bad scraps cleaned up. He was very lucky.
Jul 7 Sat … This was the evening of the All School Reunion Banquet and Dance held in a very large tent in Turner, Mt. It was quite entertaining with a “fashion” show, awards, etc. The food was catered and was very good as well. We didn’t hang around to hear much of the band play a mix of Country and 70’s – 80’s rock-n-roll. It had been a long day, starting with the Breakfast and registration.
Jul 6 Fri … This morning, we walked from Hogeland to the farm house; a distance of about 1 ½ miles. We then spent most of the day visiting with family and friends. Tonight we got together with some of Dixie’s schoolmates in Turner. We were visiting friends outside in Turner when a strong thunder storm with lighting and wind blew in. We all ran for cover.
Jul 5 Thurs … This morning, we drove about 50 miles to the town of Chinook so that Dixie could go to the clinic to see a Dr. for the allergy problems she is having. Before the clinic visit, we stopped by the court house to renew our automobile license for another year. Later that evening, Dixie’s brother Doug and wife Fran, had us and several friends and family, over to their house for dinner. We were able to eat outside and except for a few flies, it was very nice. Since Dixie’s Mom and Dad are now “at the farm” we are now staying at Doug and Fran’s house. Many family and friends are “in town” for the Turner, MT all school reunion going on this weekend.
Jul 4 Wed … INDEPENDENCE DAY!!! Dixie’s sister Denita made two excellent kinds of pizza this evening. Steve and the kids lit firecrackers after it finally got dark enough. Up here, it’s not totally dark until about 10:30 p.m.
Jul 3 Tue … Dixie rode the riding lawnmower all day mowing around the farm. Mike did lots of trimming.
Jul 2 Mon … Hogeland clean-up day because of the all school reunion coming this weekend. Mike used the weed-hog trimmer most of the day. Dixie stayed home with Shay. That evening, a “thank you” dinner of hamburgers and hot dogs was held at the local fire station.

Houston & Montana
June 28 – Wed – Jul 1 Sun… Got to the airport early on Wednesday and was finally boarded on a flight to Minneapolis at 7:05 p.m. that evening. (Thank goodness for Dixie’s lifetime Presidents Club membership.) We learned that Northwest Airlines was cancelling many of their flights because a more than normal number of pilots were calling in sick. Apparently they have a problem with their contract. Hotel space was at a premium but we did find a room and finally got there around 12 midnight. The next morning (Thurs) we boarded a flight to Great Falls, MT where Dixie’s mother picked us up. We drove to a county park in the Bear Paw mountains for a family reunion that lasted until Sunday. We then drove to the “farm” in Hogeland, MT for more visiting with Dixie’s family. We’ll be here until Monday July 9th.
June 27 Tue cont’d – After the service, we attended a family reception dinner at Karen’s brother and sister-in-law’s home. Our plans were to travel to Montana on Wednesday, however, we decided to go to the airport Tuesday afternoon because the flights were looking very booked (being former airline employees, we travel standby) on Wednesday. We were unable to board a flight that day so Katherine picked us up and we spent another night with them.
June 22 Fri – June 26 Tue … We put the motorhome in storage and drove the car to a hotel near the Grand Rapids airport. We were able to leave the car there and caught a flight out on Saturday morning to Cleveland. From there we boarded a CO flight to Houston. We rented a car and drove to Mike’s brothers’ home in Pearland, TX where we stayed the evening. Mike’s sister and brother-in-law Sandy and Buster Reeves flew in from California as well. On Sunday we met Katherine and the boys at her sister Barbara’s home in Spring, TX. On Monday evening we attended “visitation” with the family and friends at the funeral home. The funeral service was on Tuesday at the Grace Community Church in Friendswood, TX. Since Jason was a Houston Firefighter, the Houston Fire Department made the arrangements and they did an outstanding, very professional service. Jason’s station no. 26 closed for the service and was attended by more than 300 friends and family. He will be missed.

June 21 … Thurs – We got the sad and tragic news this morning of the passing of our nephew Jason. We’re making plans to get to Houston now.
June 20 … Wed – We decided to get the bikes down and take a ride on a 33 mile bike trail. Not all 33 miles, of course. We estimated we rode about 14 miles, however. We packed a lunch and ate at a little league ball park in the little town of Alamo, MI. Needless to say, we were tired that evening.
June 19 … Tue –We drove into Kalamazoo today to do a bit of shopping. The first stop was Walmart where we bought 4 new tires for the Tracker. It took longer than expected so we walked across a main street and had a Subway lunch and then a trip to a Manards store which is a cross between a Walmart and a Home Depot. We then went to a mall where Dixie bought tennis shoes and I bought some sandals. After dinner, we met a nice couple at the park who had a dog that closely resembled our Rusty, our dog we had for almost 14 years.
